large_hadron_collider_creditCERN The LHC has been damaged by a bird dropping a small piece of a baguette onto the superconducting magnets causing a ‘quench’ situation to occur.

A ‘quench’ occurs when the superconducting magnets heat up from around -270C to -265C and lose their superconducting ability.

If the ‘quench’ had occurred when the LHC was in full operation it would have caused damage similar to that caused last year. The LHC would have been out of action for at least a year.

Fail-safe devices were able to cut in as the temperature rose and the LHC was switched off.

The LHC will be out of action for a few days whilst the baguette is removed.

There is a belief in some quarters that the LHC in the future has sent back a time ripple in an attempt to shut down the LHC permanently. This has happened because a possible universe threatening event has happened in the future.

The Higgs particle or ‘God’ particle that the LHC is trying to find has detected the threat of a disastrous anomaly happening and sent back a time ripple to destroy the LHC. That’s the theory anyway and they seem to have enlisted the help of a pigeon to carry out it’s mission.
